Exploration Geologist
Location: Tumbler Ridge, BC
Peace River Coal Inc. (PRC) is a subsidiary of the Anglo American PLC Group located in North East BC. We are currently accepting resumes for the position of Exploration Geologist.
The Exploration Geologist supports the exploration group with field drilling programs and the development of geological databases and models of the company’s coal deposits. The main purpose is to identify geological conditions and trends that can reasonably be predicted through the use of appropriate exploration techniques.
The Exploration Geologist supports management in ensuring that Peace River Coal's standards are maintained and improved on Exploration Projects. This includes meeting industry ‘Best Practice’ standards for monitoring, evaluating and reporting of geological conditions, coal quality and exploration practices which all impact on PRC’s coal resources and reserves.
Knowledge and skills:
- Experience and familiarity with the principles of coal exploration and coal resource and reserve evaluations.
- Familiarity and experience with borehole geophysical logging systems for coal exploration.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to understand the practical mining implications of geological decisions.
- Good communication skills with strong ability to disseminate geological knowledge.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good understanding of exploration SHEC.
- Ability to identify and implement efficiencies in exploration and geological data flow.
- Experienced with computer tools such as, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and geological computer modelling systems.
- Excellent report writing skills.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelors of Science degree in Geology or Earth Science.
- A minimum of 2 years previous experience in exploration and resource and reserve evaluations would be beneficial.
- Experience in coal would be an advantage but is not a prerequisite.
- Eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia is preferred.
- Valid drivers licence is a requirement.
An attractive remuneration package commensurate with experience will be offered to the successful candidate. The Company operates a non-contractual incentive bonus scheme, the payment and level of which are discretionary.
